Visit Alaska On Your Next Military Leave

A variety of accommodations is available at very reasonable prices. Whether they want to camp, stay in a motel, or have a log cabin to themselves, military families can do it there.

Located 125 miles south of Anchorage in the city of Seward, this resort is designed for retired and active duty military, DoD civilians, and their families. The resort is situated on the Kenai Peninsula, surrounded by the breathtaking Kenai Fjords National Park, Chugach National Forest, and massive Harding Icefield. Local recreational opportunities are unlike those offered by most discount airline ticket destinations. Kayaking, horseback riding, glacier cruises, whitewater rafting, guided river fishing, and flight-seeing are just a sampling. The resort even owns and operates charter boats that take guests on thrilling deep sea fishing expeditions. Special winter events include a New Year’s Eve celebration and snowmobile tours.

From September 16 to May 15, guests who stay two nights receive a third night free. This gives them more time to enjoy Alaskan adventures like dog sled tours and scenic river trips. The family can even venture out to the Alaska Sea Life Center go on a long nature hike at the Caines Head State Recreation area.

With a military discount, airline ticket prices are much cheaper. Staying at Seward Military Resort is another money-saver. During the winter season, the nightly rate for a motel room is just $51 and it costs only $76 per night to stay in a townhome or the log cabin. Even upgrading to a townhome with a fireplace will cost only $101 per night, a price that is difficult to beat.
